'Books in Homes' is a national charity which raises money
to provide Primary School children with 3 new books of their
choice per term. Most of us take it for granted that there are
books in homes, however for children in remote areas such
as Derby, some children have never had a book of their own.
These pictures tell the real story of the benefit of this
fabulous charity.
In 2006, 6DBY spearheaded a local campaign for "Books in Derby
Homes" holding a 'live to air' Auction. The
auction featured fabulous local artwork, artifacts and donations
of all sorts from the whole of the shire, from chickens to trail
rides! The fundraising efforts were recognised nationally by the
CBAA with an Award for 'Best/ Fundraising idea'. The community
raised $60,000 for Books in Derby Homes.
This year the team at 6DBY will be holding another 'Books in
Homes' AUCTION 'live to air' on May 1st, 2008. If you want to
donate an auction item contact the station on 08 91931966 or
email 6dby@westnet.com.au.
If you want to bid on an auction item tune in to 97.9FM on the
day. Items for auction can be viewed here.
If you or your organisation would like to sponsor this event in
any way then please contact us as we really need your support.
